Bernard Leaves Harcourt

by Rachel Deahl, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 7/24/2006

After a decade at Harcourt, v-p and publisher Andre Bernard is stepping down. Bernard, a publishing industry veteran with more than 20 years in the business, will be leaving the house next week to work for the Guggenheim Foundation. As v-p of that organization, which provides fellowships to professionals in a variety of fields, Bernard, according to Harcourt publicist Jennifer Gilmore, “will continue to contribute talent and, now, treasure, to writers, photographers, and others in the world of the creative arts.”

Stepping into Bernard’s vacated spot will be Harcourt's current editor-in-chief and associate publisher, Rebecca Saletan. No word yet on whether Harcourt will look to fill Saletan’s job.—Rachel Deahl
