One Fan’s Wait for ‘Breaking Dawn’

By Tricia O'Connor -- Publishers Weekly, 8/4/2008 7:59:00 AM

Twilight/Meyer aficionado Tricia O’Connor, 16, shared her Friday evening timeline of events as she and her friend Alex awaited the arrival of Breaking Dawn in suburban Pittsburgh.

10:15 P.M. Alex and I arrive at Borders in the Northway Mall for the Breaking Dawn midnight release party. We get our wristbands telling us what places in line we are. Alex is 123, but I’m all the way back at 349 (Alex pre-ordered a book—I didn’t). I can’t imagine that there are over 300 people here! I would say closer to 100 at most. Most people here are girls, I would guess around age 13. Most are wearing either “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” t-shirts. I’m definitely on Team Edward.

10:30 P.M. We walk around the store to see the activities and the costumes people are wearing. My favorite is the group of girls wearing baseball uniforms that read “Vampire Baseball League.” I hope they win the costume contest. There is a trivia game going on in the music section of the store. We sit down to listen to the questions and I have no idea what any of the answers are! One question asked is: “What is Stephenie Meyer’s husband’s nickname?” Another is: “On what day of the week did the vampire Victoria come for Bella?” I’m shocked to see that some people actually know the answers!!

11:00 P.M. Alex and I are going to get pizza to help pass the time. I can’t wait to get my hands on Breaking Dawn!!

11:45 P.M. Wow! There are a lot more people here now that is closer to midnight—a lot more people. The area near the cash registers is packed with people of all ages. I even see a group of little kids who don’t look much older than eight! I think what most people did was come get a wristband for a place in line, then leave and return closer to midnight, which is such a good idea!!

11:50 P.M. They’ve just wheeled the boxes up to the front of the store. I’m so excited! I really hope Bella becomes a vampire and she BETTER marry Edward. I’m positive Breaking Dawn will be amazing. I just hope it turns out the way I want!

12:15 A.M. It’s finally here! I can’t wait to start reading!

Update: Sunday, 12 noon. I haven’t finished the book yet—I decided to pace myself. And now I have something really good to take on the plane tomorrow when I leave for vacation with my family.
