Viz Media’s blockbuster Naruto franchise, the story of a young ninja in training, returns to the list this month with three volumes in the top 10. Volume 28 (at #10) marks Naruto’s debut as a teenager—2 years have passed in Naruto’s life—Volume 29 (at #2) introduces a new enemy, the Akatsuki; and in Volume 30 (at #9), Sakura takes her place on the frontline in the fight to save Naruto. In late July Viz will release the DVD of the anime, Naruto the Movie 2: The Legend of the Stone of Gelel. The manga series has sold more than 2 million copies in the U.S.

Created by superstar Japanese manga creator Ken Akamatsu, Del Rey’s Negima is the story of young wizard who teaches English at a girl’s school. Negima is one of Del Rey’s bestselling manga series and the house will begin publishing Mao-Chan, a new series written by Akamatsu with art by Ran, beginning in fall 2008.

5.  Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8: No Future for You, Volume 2.

Dark Horse has two series in the top 10 this month. Volume 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8: No Future for You is at #5 and, on the heels of the new film, the graphic novel adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is at #6. According to Dark Horse’s Michael Martens, Buffy Season 8 volume 2 has more than 60,000 copies in print, while Indiana Jones has more than 45,000 copies in print. The two volumes of Buffy Season 8, Martens says, are “the fastest-selling Dark Horse titles of all time.”
