Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon 2008
The 6th annual Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon will take place at the Holiday Inn on King Street in Toronto, from 10 AM to 7 PM on Saturday, July 12th and from 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday, July 13th. Guests include Herb Trimpe, Greg Land, Frank Brunner, and Jeff Lemire. One-day passes are available for $15, two-day passes for $25.
Dr. Horrible Preview on Myspace
As Joss Whedon prepares to debut the first installment of his live action supervillain musical, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, on July 14th, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer has posted an 8-page preview web comic at Myspace Dark Horse Presents.
Japan Expo 2008 Awards
The 9th Japan Expo Awards took place in Paris, France last weekend, with over 80,000 people in attendance. The Grand Prix was awarded to manga creator Naoki Urasawa for 20th Century Boys, with special jury awards going to Kazuo Koike, Go Nagai, and Takeshi Obata. Lucky Release Party
Gabrielle Bell celebrates the release of Lucky #2 (Drawn and Quarterly) at the Desert Island comics store from 6-9 PM on Friday, July 11th. Desert Island is located at 540 Metropolitan Ave. in Brooklyn, New York.
2008 Courage in Editorial Cartooning Award
Bahaa Boukhari, a Palestinian cartoonist whose newspaper was suspended from publication when one of his cartoons was accused of having an anti-Hamas bias, recently won the 2008 Courage in Editorial Cartooning award from Cartoonist Rights Network International.
Comic-Con International Film Festival Schedule
