Christopher Paolini fans, who'll soon see the young author's Eragon get the big screen treatment in December, can whet their appetites with this week's bells and whistles version of his sequel to that book, Knopf's Eldest Deluxe Edition. Also out this week is a new title from The Day of the Jackal author Frederick Forsyth.

Eldest Deluxe Edition by Christopher Paolini (Knopf, $24). The bestselling second title in the Inheritance series is now available in a deluxe version, which contains a sneak peek at Book III, a foldout poster and never-before-seen art by the author. 350,000 first printing.
State of Emergency: How Illegal Immigration Is Destroying America by Patrick J. Buchanan (Thomas Dunne, $24.95) is the former presidential candidate’s call to arms on illegal immigration. 300,000 first printing.
The Afghan by Frederick Forsyth (Putnam, $26.95) may not be “quite up to the level of The Day of the Jackal or his more recent Fist of God, but it’s a cut above most other post-9/11 spy thrillers,” said PW. 250,000 first printing.
Hunters of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson (Tor, $27.95), based on Herbert’s final outline, is the next to last installment in the enduring science fiction series. 200,000 first printing.
Endymion Spring by Matthew Skelton (Delacorte, $17.95), a fantasy set in modern-day Oxford and 15th-century Germany, is the story of a boy who finds a mysterious blank book. 150,000 first printing.
The 9/11 Report by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon (Hill and Wang, $30) is a graphic adaptation of the official government report by two respected collaborators.
