Though Epicenter Press has unexpectedly cashed in on Sarah Palin’s vice presidential bid, other publishers are rushing to market with books, both serious and funny, on the Alaska governor. At least two crashed books about McCain's running mate are set to pub before the election, Sarah Palin: A New Kind of Leader (Zondervan) and 101 Things You—and John McCain—Didn't Know About Sarah Palin (Adams Media).
In Sarah Palin: A New Kind of Leader, author Joe Hilley explores themes from Palin’s career, family life and Christian faith to illustrate the leadership principles that guide her. Zondervan plans a 100,000-copy first printing. Karen Campbell, director of public relations at Zondervan, said the house decided to publish the book over Labor Day weekend and will have books in stores no later than October 10.
David Nussbaum, CEO of F&W Publications, which owns Adams Media, said his house decided last Monday to crash 101 Things You—and John McCain—Didn’t Know About Sarah Palin by Gregory Bergman. By Friday, it had an estimated print run of 25,000 planned. The $9.95 paperback features content based on reported Sarah Palin facts, with humorous commentary. Nussbam expects to have books in stores by the first week of October, or perhaps even by the end of September. The book will also be available as a Kindle e-book, and a Web site, 101thingsaboutsarahpalin.com, will go live by September 22.
