My (Very) Hidden Talent
October 6, 2008

You can be forgiven if you didn't notice the following news from Little, Brown:

"We've just posted photos of Washington DC to GeorgePelecanos.com.   The photos are of places in DC that George sent us to, places that show up in his books, the community garden in THE NIGHT GARDENER, the view from Derek Strange's window, as well as places from his past, the house where he grew up and the location of the restaurant that his father owned. The photographer for the new photos was Bethanne Patrick, PW's Book Maven blogger(http://www.publishersweekly.com/blog/670000267.html).

Also new on the site are photos from the set and episode guides from THE WIRE episodes that George wrote. Those were provided courtesy of HBO."

Yes, I have been hiding my light under a bushel -- even from myself. Who knew I could even take photos, let alone a set deemed good enough to be posted on a bestselling author's website?

Here's a link to the photo gallery; the shots I took begin with the Ben's Chili Bowl photo. If you look closely at the photo of 9th and Upshur (near Strange's office), you'll see my silver Mini Cooper. I had a lot of fun following Derek Strange's and George Pelecanos's footsteps through Washington, DC. I think I'll have to let my friends Shannon McKenna Schmidt and Joni Rendon know, so they can add new material to their literary guidebook Novel Destinations...
