Join the American Medical Association, (AMA) the nations largest professional Association of physicians.
As the Senior Acquisitions Editor for the Editorial and Operations unit of the AMA you will acquire new products by monitoring current trends in medical practice publishing and maintaining/initiating contacts with experts in the field and within AMA who may act as authors or reviewers. Perform market research, proposal review/development, and financial analysis in support of new product acquisitions. Recruit and initiate potential authors and negotiate contracts and submission schedules with authors of acquired projects. Ensure the quality, timeliness, and marketability of new products by performing author guidance, content development, and editorial quality review. Work as a member of the Editorial team in directing the editing, production, and marketing of new products. Salary up to low 90's based on experience.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Publishing, Marketing, Business Communications/Liberal Arts required.
2. Minimum ten years of experience in book publishing in an editorial position with at least five years of experience in product acquisitions and project management.
3. Background in medical publishing is preferred.
4. Exceptional organizational skills, substantive copy editing skills, and knowledge of book publishing processes.
5. Superior written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to clearly articulate directions to others involved in product development such as authors, editors, reviewers, ghostwriters, etc.
6. Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively as a member of an editorial team.
7. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple editorial projects simultaneously with consistent cost and deadline consciousness.
8. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a team environment as well as to be a strong individual contributor.
9. Some travel required.
