Trying New Fangled Things

| Adrian Paul, of Highlander fame, will be stuck...I mean, thrilled to be meeting with me in an interview room at RT...lucky man. |
When I go to the Romantic Times Booklovers convention in 5 days, in addition to regular blogging on what's going on, I'll also be using Twitter. I know I mentioned it Monday, but if you haven't had a chance to look at it yet, try it now. "Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers (and bloggers) to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?
I know what you're thinking, "Not another thing online to deal with, I don't have time!" But it's really easy and you can only type a sentence or two and that means that's all you have to read. I can even send updates from my cell phone, so as soon as something happens, I can update Twitter without having to go to my room and using my computer. Check it out here.

Another cool thing I'll be doing is on the spot interviews and updates with my brand spanking new Flip video camera. Now if you've never seen one, it's a little bigger than a cell phone, but takes amazing video. You push a button and a plug pops out for your computer to download the video. Then you can make a movie and even email it. It will then be posted on the blog so you can experience the convention while it's happening. I'll put a sample up soon.
Finally, I've opened a Flickr account. Flickr is a photo service where I'll be posting pictures same day from RT and I encourage everyone to do the same. That way it will be one stop to see everyone's pics. I'll post that link on Monday. You can check it out now because I've put in the New York pictures so far.

So reporting on RT should be a lot of fun this year and even if you can't make it, I'll be blogging, using Twitter for updates, posting videos and downloading pictures on Flickr. Hopefully, it will make you feel like you are part of the adventure.
Check the list of authors attending and if you'd like me to ask any questions and maybe get a video answer, let me know and I'll track them down for you.
Now you tell me. Does all this techno stuff scare you? Or are you adventurous enough to give it a try? Do you need your kids to help you? (I always do) Anything about RT you need me to check out or that I missed?
Bottom Line: Things to pack for Adrian interview: scented candles, mood music, push up bra (maxi strength)...oh, yeah and maybe a pen and some paper, just in case.

First comment! (sorry, it's the little things in life that get me excited) - Just want to say thanks to you Barbara for trying out so many new online tools! Next week should be a blast.
Since I will be there at RT and talking to you occasionally, I hope, I plan to be too busy having fun to check out the stuff then, but definitely will when I get home. I love looking at pics and remembering how much fun I had. Newfangled electronic stuff makes me nervous. I am always afraid I will hit the wrong button and erase everything.
More toys - er, tools to play with? Confuse me? RT is going to be fun!!! Seriously! I can't wait!
YAY Barbara! Can't wait to see you again at RT. Cheers Cheryl
Thanks Barb--you're right--my 1st instinct was to say "yipes--more technology" but your tools are amazing! Thanks for your wonderful blog!
Hmmm...this cyberklutz may take more convincing, but I must admit, the video camera does look cool! Can't wait to see you at RT!
Hi Barbara! Swinging over from the Bandit Lair to admire the toys. (Esp. the boy-toy, Adrian! *Swoon*) I love that sort of techie stuff. Don't always learn to USE it, but love that its possible. I can't make it to RT this year, but I'm excited to see all your reports. You should catch Donna McMeans (Education of Mrs. Brimley) for sure. Ask her about that June book...it's going to be SO cool. Ha! Can't wait to "see" RT! Cannot WAIT to hear about the Adrian interview...*double swoon*
Ooh. I'm jealous of all your new gadgets. Very cool, Barbara. Unfortunately, I will not be at RT. But I'll be reading your reports. I don't post often, but I'm here, reading it all. Have fun!!! Ann Roth
Barbara, I'm so amazed and impressed at the way you take to this new gadgetry - you are phenomenal! I won't be at RT, so it will be a great way for me to feel like I can still be part of the action. Just don't get so caught up in posting that you don't get a chance for fun yourself! After all, the cover models await...
What a coincidence! I happen to see Flip video camera on the news this morning. Can wait to see your vids!
Flicker? Twitter? I dunno, Barbara. Hey, where do I find one of the super-max hoisting push-up bras? Not that I need one or anything...just asking. ;)
Great picture of Adrian Paul, I loved him in Highlander. I miss that show. I like the new technology, but it usually takes me a little while before I bother to buy the new gadgets or learn to use them fully. I'll be looking forward to seeing your videos and pictures though.
Hey Barbara, looking forward to seeing you next week at RT. I'm flying in on Sunday. Have I mentioned my overwhelming jealousy that you get to meet Adrian Paul? : ) Stacey K.
Have a great time. New gagets drive me nuts. I know you will have fun using them next week.
And just last year you were bemoaning your techie skills--who knew you'd be a pro at it so quickly! Have fun with your new toys!
I've yet to even get a cell phone (let alone MP3s or anything else remotely technological). By the time I decide to maybe try some gadget an 'improved' version has appeared and I'm doubly confused. I really need to check things out with some teens who know everything about this stuff.
Barbara, I love all tech gadgets and am usually one of those first adapters who overpay for something that's vastly improved six months after I buy it, but I gotta say that anything to do with more time online is so not something I'm going to be signing up for. At least if I expect to make deadlines!
I do, however, look forward to seeing your pictures! (We use the Phanfare photo site for the same thing.) Have a super time!
I'm not opposed to technology, I just choose not to expend the money on most of it. I think I'm the only person I know who doesn't have ring tones on her cell phone or an iPod. I can't wait to see your photos from RT. Please let us know who won the American Title contest as soon as you can.
Let me know if you need an assistant for the Adrian Paul interview. You know. Someone to carry the "heavy" equipment and all. ;-)
Doesn't it figure that the year I don't go to RT is the year they book Adrian Paul. *le sigh* Have a wonderful time, Barbara. I can't wait to see a picture of you and Adrian together so I can experience it vicariously through you. Love the idea of Twitter. Must go check it out! Have fun!!
Marilyn, you're not alone; I don't have ring tones, either. Because my cell phone won't do them. I'd kinda like them, but the only reason I even have a cell phone is in case I'm in an accident and need to call the auto club and my sweetie.
I love most tech gadgets, but prefer to control them, rather than the other way around and if I've escaped my office, I don't want to receive any calls except emergency ones, which is why aforementioned sweetie is the only one who has the number.
I've also told him that when I'm away on a trip, to NOT leave messages on the cell because I never have it on, then can never remember to retrieve them. But if he leaves a message the old fashioned way, on the hotel room phone, I'll call him back.
Just discovered your blog and find it very interesting but of course am especially excited to hear you will interview Adrian Paul. You will see he is an amazingly bright and easy to talk to man. He mentioned in a recent interview that there are a number of projects he is working on so hopefully you can find out more about those?!
I wish I was going. You are a very luckily woman to get to interview Adrian Paul. I am jealous. Have lots of fun for me too
My alter ego, Desiree Holt, and I are really looking forward to meeting you at RT.
My alter ego, Desiree Holt, and I are really looking forward to meeting you at RT.
I'm so jealous of you. Not for having all those gadgets, but for using them so well. I'd need someone close by to guide me through it. Maybe someone who looks a lot like Adrian Paul.
