LitLaugh: "How Green Was My Galley"
March 12, 2008
I usually read PW online, now; it's not a conscious eco-move. It's just more convenient that way. I firmly believe that the biggest steps towards making our planet better for all species will involve finding ways to make things more convenient for humans -- we're stubborn like that.
So
this PW Soapbox by Laurence Hughes made me laugh: "When you told me that the finished book would be printed entirely on recycled paper, I was ecstatic. I just wish you had mentioned that the paper would be produced by pulping the entire inventory of my previous book....Don't get me wrong, the environment's great, but I'd hunt whales with a plutonium harpoon if I thought it would sell books."
That rueful laugh you hear is one of recognition from the entire publishing industry.
