Sweating with This, that and the other thing
March 10, 2008

The weekend may be over, but Monday brings us This, that and the other thing.  News, notes, kudos and various events from the world of publishing and the people who inhabit it.  So, if you're a reader/author/publisher with something that needs to be said, send me an email to be included.  Here's who I heard from this week:

From author Jennifer St. Giles:  Would love for you to come to Las Vegas  Hadn't mentioned it because it isn't a necessarily a book related event. IT is a Gerard Butler Fan convention that we celebrate in Vegas.  Gerard came our first year and talked to the crowd for a bit, but didn't come last year.  I don't know that he will come this year or not, but he was invited.  We do a charity auction at the convention.  Last year we raised over $10,000 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.  (Las Vegas and Gerard Butler...sounds like a winning combination to me

From author Carly Phillips:  I have decided to jump start my next book by embarking on the Sweating with Sven - 70 Days of Sweat Challenge, a support blog whose goal is to get authors to write 4 - 6 pages a day, resulting in a book in 70 days. 252 writers have signed up for the challenge which runs from March 1 - May 16.  I admit to being behind already, but I'm raring to go now and with the knowledge that others are sweating along with me, and with daily blogs of encouragement, I'm ready to tackle my current work in progress."  Carly says to ask her on May 17 how she did. Admitting it publicly here gives her even more added incentive!  (Heck, I'm sweating just thinking about, but good luck to all you brave souls out there who sign up.  I'll let you know how it ends.)

From  author Linnea SinclairP.E.A.R.L. (Paranormal Excellence Award for Romantic Literature) is a reader's choice award naming the "best of the best" in ten paranormal categories. Sara Reyes became the Manager of Publicity and Promotions for PNR (Paranormal Romance)  and PEARL 2008 marks the 10th Anniversary.  PEARL has been responsible for bringing our genre to the attention of the romance reading public as well as for the growth of the paranormal romance egroup to 2811 members as of today.

And the award winners are:

Anthology -  On the Prowl by Sunny, Karen Chance, Patricia Briggs, Eileen Wilks
Fantasy - Devil May Cry by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Futuristic - Silver Master by Jayne Castle
Best New Author - C. L. Wilson
Best Novella - Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs (On The Prowl Anthology)
Best Overall - Devil May Cry by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Best Science Fiction & Fantasy - Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair
Best Shapeshifter - Blood Lines by Eileen Wilks
Best Time Travel - When I Fall in Love by Lynn Kurland
Best Vampire - Dark Possession by Christine Feehan

Congratulations to all the winners!

And I found this on Marjorie Liu's blog:

Because books are beautiful, here is a list of the world's best digital libraries. Some may require membership before you can access their resources, but oh, I love the web.  (Me too Marjorie, unfortunately I've become somewhat obsessed with the internet.  Darn that MySpace!!)

Bottom Line:  Whenever I think of sweat, I think of Sweating to the Oldies with Richard Simmons and I really have a hard time with Richard Simmons, Sven and Gerard Butler in the same sentence.

I just picked up DEVIL MAY CRY yesterday, and I can't wait to read it. ON THE PROWL was fantastic. The Pearl winning books are always fantastic. The finalists are usually great too.

Gerard Butler…*le sigh*

This convention is such a blast and we even have a special time set aside for our published authors! You wouldn’t believe how many authors use Mr. Butler as their muse and what a muse he is!

The great thing is that we can have so much fun and still raise loads of money (not to mention raising awareness as well!) for Susan G. Komen for the Cure!

This year’s theme is Vintage Hollywood and we’re pulling out all the stops for this year. So please give yourself a good time and come to Vegas Baby!

Thanks Barb for the fantastic mention!

I thought I posted this mourning, but guess not, lol. Hey Dayna!!!! It does not look like I can go this year, it's too bad, but I have gone the past 2 years and it was so much fun!! They put on a fantastic convention and of course when Gerard showed up the 1st year, well, what more is there to say, but Woohoo, lol. If you can spare a few days for yourself, go to Vegas!!!

Hey Barbara! LOL, guess there's no way to hide a particular fondness I have for a certain Scot. Combine some fun, him, and raising money for the breast cancer foundation and other charities that focus on women and children and you have a great time. If you're interested in checking out the convention. You can find it at www.gerardbutlergals.com Looking forward to seeing anyone ready for a great time in Vegas

I was very fortunate to have been one of the recipients of a hug from Mr Butler at the first GALS convention, but even when HIMSELF is not in attendance, the GALS fan conventions in Las Vegas are a blast. I am unable to attend this year's event, but hope to attend as one of the Gerry inspired published authors in 2009! Swannie

Unfortunately, I have not had the please of meeting Mr.Butler, but that has not stopped me from being a proud GAL and supporting all of their endeavors. This will be my first year at the convention. I'm looking forward meeting all of my new friends, helping a worthy cause, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, meeting published authors, including Ms. St. Giles (being an avid reader and librarian makes that an exciting activity)and generally having a good time. Thank you for mentioning the event. Come and join the fun!

Thank you so much for mentioning the G.B. Fan Convention to be held in Vegas, June 13 & 14. This will be 3 for 3 for me, and it is going to be spectacular. Can't wait to see all my friends again and to rally for a great cause.

Wow! A mention for the Gerard Butler Fan Convention in Las Vegas - how cool is that! I've attended the previous two and can't wait for #3 this year. It is a spectacularly good time, shared with friends who "get" what it is we see in that hot Scot, Mr. Butler. I always look forward to meeting the published authors as well, and seeing what new treats they have for us! And this year we get the added treat of seeing Gerry in The Phantom of the Opera on the BIG SCREEN again, as it should be seen! ***le sighs***

Agreeing with Holly, thank you for mentioning the GB Convention in Las Vegas. Gerry is not just my Muse but he's the reason I have so many new and dear friends! Besides, authors like myself, Jennifer St. Giles, and a few others will be signing books while there! Hope to see some new fans this year! Leslie Dicken www.lesliedicken.com
